Hospitality in Europe

The Congress on Social Inclusion is promoted by the European Working Group on Social Inclusion of Hospitality Europe.

The mission of this Working Group, coordinated by Doris Zwick, is to promote the sharing of knowledge, initiatives, and joint planning among the European Provinces in matters of social inclusion.

The working group understands the commitment to social inclusion through an approach aimed at preventing, correcting, or alleviating imbalances related to the support of individuals, through its two dimensions: functional autonomy and integration/relationships.The objective of this support must be to foster interaction and agency in individuals.

Interaction: the ability to exercise and maintain the capacity to be, to belong, and to function within the reference group or community on an equal footing in all aspects of life.

Agency: the ability of a person to act freely and competently in the world.

The working group is composed of one representative from each of the European Provinces of the Hospitaller Order of St John of God (Poland, Central Europe, France, Lombardy-Veneto, Rome, Spain, Portugal, Western Europe) and three representatives of the Congregation of the Sisters Hospitallers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, representing the Provinces of Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, and England.

Hospitality Europe is an international association founded in 2012 and based in Brussels, which has developed European projects arising from the merger of two institutions with a centuries-old history:

  • Congregation of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

  • Hospital Order of St John of God

Chaired by Brother Joaquim Erra, General Councillor of the Hospital Order, and led by Joan Uribe as Director General, Hospitality Europe comprises over 280 centres across Europe, with 77,000 professionals and 7,000 volunteers providing more than 25 million services a year.

Focusing on the most vulnerable individuals and groups, the organisation proposes an action plan that combines direct care, awareness-raising and political advocacy, underpinned by an open, inclusive, transparent and participatory organisational style.

The primary aim of the association is to bring Hospitality to to people, society and institutions.
